How is your lab different?
Our primary business is developing new technologies for the financial technology and travel technology industries. However, over the years our founder has served as a mentor as well as business advisor and devoted many thousands of hours volunteering and working with hundreds of start-ups. We decided to share our knowledge and experience as a founder, entrepreneur, and start-up advocate by supporting the early stage business ecosystem through a “no cost, no fee” mentoring and advocacy program. This is our way of giving back to the early stage business community and supporting entrepreneurship.
What kind of early stage companies do you work with?
With our mentoring support, we are industry agnostic and help founders across many market segments. We have mentored and advised many hundreds of B2B and B2C companies in Fin-Tech, Clean Energy, Food and Agriculture, Artificial Intelligence, Transportation, Augmented and Virtual Realty, Medical Devices, Precision Instruments, Blockchain, Predictive Analytics, Consumer Goods and Software Development. Even though most of the companies we support fall within the definition of “high technology”, our primary criteria for supporting founders ultimately depends on whether the company is up to “big things” and developing innovative solutions, products or services.
Can founders located in other states or countries apply to receive free mentoring?
At the moment we are only accepting applications from companies in Washington State. However, we intend to begin expanding our program to other states and countries in Q1, 2019.
How does your no cost, no fee mentoring program work?
Eligibility to participate in our free mentoring program requires that founders submit an application. If selected then applicants will receive feedback and guidance from a volunteer mentor. While we can assist on a range of subjects most of the mentoring requests we receive pertain to fleshing-out the business narrative, customer discovery, financial modelling, go-to- market strategies, business plans, and investor pitching. Our mentoring sessions are about 90 minutes and in rare occasions up to two hours. Founders will never be asked to pay for our support and never be referred outside our office hours without your consent. Our mentoring program has no strings attached and all sessions are confidential.
Why require applications?
Mentoring is what we do as volunteers – it is not our core business. Our bandwidth is limited so we want to make sure that your application demonstrates a level of readiness to participate and that our needs align with expectations and resources.
What happens after I submit my application?
If you are selected to receive free mentoring then you may be asked to provide additional information. Usually those who are selected will simply be invited to meet during our office hours.
Do you invest in companies?
We are exploring the possibility of creating a Seed Fund in 2019. In cases where founders have received mentoring from us, we may assist with making selected introductions to angel investors and VC’s.
If I participate in the free office hour program, what happens after the mentoring session?
Our mentoring session will conclude with you designing a unique leadership, operational, financial or product development roadmap for your business or idea based upon the subjects we discuss.
Are you currently accepting applications for Mentors?
We welcome hearing from founders or subject matter experts who are share our commitment to volunteering time to supporting start-up and entrepreneurial ecosystems. Although we are not actively seeking mentors, if you support our mission of providing no cost, no fee, confidential mentoring and would like to be notified if a volunteer position opens then please Contact Us.
